DNS/CNAME/MX records

Apps Services provide an inexpensive service for getting Google Apps set up on your domain.

In order to validate your domain ownership and to configure custom URLs (eg http://mail.mydomain.com instead of
http://mail.google.com/a/mydomain.com or docs.mydomain.com instead of docs.google.com/a/mydomain.com) then you will need to amend your CNAME records in your domains DNS settings.

This varies from registrar to registrar - but in essence means you have to go to DNS settings and add the following:

Host Name/Alias Value/Destination
Verification: googlefffggghhh12345 (your unique string) google.com
Custom URL: eg   docs ghs.google.com

For email to be routed through your domain and for your new email addresses to work (eg name@mydomain.com ) then you have to amend your domains MX records. Again, this varies from registrar to registrar as above - but in essence any existing MX records need to be removed and the following added:

Priority Mail Server
 1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
 5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
 5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
10 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
 10
 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
